Better Living Through Botanomancy

Sunday was our regular twice monthly gaming session. It is summer of Year Two in the Kingdom Building Sim and the exploratory parties that the players sent out in late spring returned with big news. Three new civilizations were discovered and all three seem to be from their home world, tho oddly they all seem to have arrived on this world earlier (in one case, perhaps a thousand years earlier) than Our Heroes. Needless to say, the Royal Wizarding Corps wants to investigate this.

Yesterday, I took the day off from work to go get antibiotics for my leg infection. I probably could have beaten it without them, but I can’t afford to skip too many days of work. I’m feeling pretty good today and the leg looks alot better, so I’ll be off to work soon.

More bloggage later.

I spoke too soon about a leg infection not being connected to my aching muscles. Turns out that a couple of hours later, Grace noticed redness on my leg. SHIT! Well, once before we caught the infection early on and kicked it’s ass without resorting to antibiotics. Hopefully, the current regimine of propping the leg up high while taking lots of vitamins/garlic/echinacea/etc will help my body fight this off. We’ll know by tomorrow night. If I’m not better, it’ll be a trip to Urgent Care for me.

NOTE FROM THE FUTURE: I’m recovering right now from a leg infection that put me in the hospital for 3 days. This one back in 2004, however, was the second one in less that 6 months. That has not happened again, and in fact, I have gone as much as 3 years between cellulitis attacks.

Feelin’ Like I Been Tenderized

Fuck, I feel awful. Somewhere between getting off work at 5 last night and getting home around 6:15, all of my my back, neck and leg muscles began to hurt like hell. Went to bed around 8 after loading up on ibuprofen, but didn’t really fall asleep until about midnight. Even then I seldom slept for more than 30 minutes at a stretch.

Normally, this sort of musculature aching goes hand in hand with one of my legs getting infected, but not this time. Both legs show no sign of infection. I guess I’ll take some more meds soon and try sleeping again.

Naked Thoughts Posed Just The Way You Like Them

Can’t sleep despite being full of food, so here’s an RPG meme…

1. What is the first RPG you ever played?

2. What RPG do you currently play most often?

Hmmm…probably TOON

3. What is the best system you’ve played?

Over the Edge

4. What is the best system you’ve run?

Over The Edge

5. Would you consider yourself an: Elitist/ Min-Maxer/ Rules Lawyer?

None of the above. In fact, I think all three types should be pimpslapped on a regular basis.

6. If you could recommend a new RPG which would you recommend? Why?

I haven’t really paid much attention to new RPGs in the past couple of years, but Heroquest looks very good.

7. How often do you play?

I’m a GM, so I don’t get to play. However, my gaming group meets twice a month.

8. What sort of characters do you play? Leader? Follower? Comic Relief? Roll-Player/ Role-Player?

When I get a chance to play, I’m usually either a Leader or Comic Relief. I’m a Roleplayer.

9. What is your favorite Genre for RPGs?

Pulp Era or Fantasy

10. What Genres have you played in?

Pretty much all of them.

11. Do you prefer to play or GM? Do you do both?

I prefer both, but seem to get stuck GMing 99.99% of the time.

12. Do you like religion in your games?

Hell, I don’t even like it in real life.

13. Do you have taboo subjects in your games or is everything “fair game”?

What is or isn’t taboo depends upon the group of people involved. Personally, I can’t think of any taboos I’d have.

14. Have you developed your own RPG before?

Many, many times.

15. Have you ever been published in the Gaming Industry? If so…what?

Tooniversal Tour Guide, Toon Tales, Toon Ace Catalog, It Waits… (for Over The Edge), the entry for Robert “Doc” Cross in Weather The Cuckoo Likes (also for OTE), a few entries in At Your Service (for OTE), a few gaming mag articles and reviews, many zines for Alarums & Excursions.

The Master Of Kitchen Fu

If I were a man possessed of great modesty, I’d say that the dinner I just cooked and ate was not bad. However, since I’ve never even understood modesty, let alone possessed it, I’ll say that I FUCKIN’ KICKED CULINARY ASS!
We’re talkin’ rub the pot roast all over your chest terrific chow, baby!

Grace and I will now lapse into food induced comas, with a short period of activity later when Pie Time rolls around.

The Future Adventures Of The Old Scalawag And His Sweet Angel

Continuing the theme of travelling from the last post, here is the tentative 2005 Vacation Itinerary for Grace and I.

February: DunDraCon I’ll be running my 15th or 16th annual TOON game.

July: Origins Grace won’t be going and I’ll just be flying in, doing the con, then flying out.

August: 7 day driving vacation on the West Coast. No firm route set, cos Grace will be planning it and surprising me.

November: GenCon SoCal We have kinda decided to go to this con on the odd numbered years. We liked the first one and will be eager to see how the con has grown.

No bigass 2-3 week driving vacations in 2005. We decided to take a year off. Also, no Hawaii trip. That one was pushed back to 2006 due to Grace going back to school for the next 3 semesters or so.

2007 will find us giving GenCon Indy another try, since by then the bad taste of the 2004 GenCon trip will have dissapated and my boredom with certain aspects of the gaming hobby/industry will hopefully have faded.

It is also possible that we might do some travelling outside North America in 2007, tho that is VERY tentative right now.

(Note from September 9, 2013: Wow, were these predictions wrong! In 2005, I went to Dundracon and that was it. In 2007, I went to Dundracon and GenCon, but Grace had pretty much given up on cons.)
