Walter the Superhero: Part Two

Ok, so the winning power was shapechanging. But wait…that could confer a few other powers on Walter, such as…

Stretching would be possible, altho not nearly like Mr. Fantastic or Plastic Man.

Invisibility would be more like super camouflage, but ol’ Walt could still blend into a background pretty perfectly.

Growth, like stretching, would be limited by his body mass, but he could easily add a foot or so to his normal height.

Flying, or more likely, gliding, is another possibility.

Hmmm…he could, by lengthening his stride, run pretty fast…not Flash fast, but maybe cheetah speed.

I shall think more on this. As for YOU, Gentle Reader…

Does Walter have a wife or a girlfriend? A boyfriend? Children? Pets?

A Birthday Present: Part 1

A friend of mine has a birthday coming up in a couple of days. The following is for her, tho I hope everyone else enjoys it. Oh, and the names have been changed to protect the innocent:)

So here they were, the adventure over and evil defeated, standing on her front porch in the moonlight just as they had been when all of this started. Well, except for the fact that he was himself now and not The Shadow. She wasn’t sure she could ever really believe that they were the same person. At least, that’s what she told herself.

“So, it’s all done.” She couldn’t keep a bit of regret out of her voice. He had been right…adventure was addictive.

He grinned at her. “Yep, for you it is. For Hope and I, and my core team, it won’t ever end. Evil still lurks, you know.”

He gave her a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. Then he put one of the black, one button cell phones in her hand.

“If you need me…or if you learn of something…don’t hesitate to use it.”

“I will,” she said, giving him another hug before he turned to walk away. “Goodbye.”

“Goodbye, Amy.”

He got to the gate before she ran after him. She just had to ask.

“Red…will I ever…you know…be an active part of things again.”

He didn’t stop walking and she could see he was changing. His clothing shifted into the dark suit, long black cape and broad brimmed hat. He got taller, too. His hair shortened and got dark. When he stopped about 60 feet away and looked over his shoulder, she could see his glowing green eyes and hawk-like nose.

“Who knows?” he replied in that deep and unsettling voice of his. Then, laughing at his little joke, he faded into the shadows and was gone.
